A Blast From The Past II: Wajuk

Sequel to: The Early Years

When I was 14, I joined a group of about 12 slightly older boys and girls. We called our group "wajuk". It had started as a regular municipal youth meeting every Tuesday. Hence the name, that consists of the first letters of our village "Wa..." and "Jugendkreis" (=youth club).

It was a great time. We've soon recognized that meetings on Tuesdays aren't enough. So we met "privately" nearly every day. We were a great group of friends. Nobody smoked, nobody drank alkohol (to demonstrate his coolness), everybody was accepted the way (s)he was. And we trusted each other. It was a perfect group: always big fun, never boring, no envy, no anger, no jealousy. They were all very smart, cool, nice, and we spent so many wonderful days together. We also talked about personal problems and we cared for each other.

We had BBQs nearly every evening in the summer, we hang around a lot, tossed the frisbee, played badminton, cooked and ate together at someone's home, went on bike trips, went hiking. Our parents were all happy we're such a perfect group and they've all supported us, it was no problem to bring all those guys home for dinner or for tea and cookies.

Although they're all straight I've never felt odd. It was like paradise on earth.

Unfortunately we all grew older, we've all moved to different towns for college after highschool. Once or twice a year we're meeting up and it's like we've never been seperated. They're all still wonderful people and I'm very lucky knowing them.

You can't turn back time. Unfortunately. If a fairy offers me three wishes, I'd definitely consider a permanent reunion of our group. If anyone of them stumbles on this blog entry, here's something I want to tell you: Thank you very much for an amazing time. I'm proud to know you and I hope we'll stay in touch!

To be continued ...
